Spirituality got some things right that science will die trying to inculcate or understand.
Specifically, belief and faith.
I believe, that belief is an important element of the human experience, that we can change our minds, that we can change the story we tell ourselves, and reinforce it through belief, through stories.
Almost to the extent that it doesn’t matter what is real and what isn’t. The only thing that matters is what we believe and does it serve us.
Considering that and how science is concerned with trying to find the absolute truth, it unfortunately ignores the subjective reality that all of us build within ourselves.
One can also argue that while scientific progress has led to longer life expectancies and delegated a lot of our grunt work, it has also made us more disconnected, more dissatisfied, more anxious and fearful.
Yes there is a correlation and not a causation here, for sure.
It’s too bad or rather only human that people started leveraging religion/belief/faith to play status games, which is the same as they’re now doing with technology and capitalism.
And I’m grateful for technology in a lot of ways too. But does it really serve me?
What impact has it had on me over the years, not just directly, but by the impact it’s had on the people around me.
It’s something to think about. Something to think about indeed…
