this is for all my builder buddies out there.
the one golden rule to rule them all.
if there’s one thing you must make sure to do, it’s to ship something valueable everyday.
it has 3 components
shipping - which means to actually complete things and push them to production. Push them to a place where they can help the world. They can be little things, you don’t need to build the entire golden gate bridge at once, build a single lane road that helps people, or is on the way to the bridge you’re working on, whatever it is, ship it. put it out there.
value - this is the tricky one, to make sure that what you’re shipping is actually something that the world needs. you have all the time to do more things that only you need and fulfil yourself just for yourself, and totally you should do that. But also work towards finding things that people need, and building a sense of identifying them. Ship more of these things, ship these things often. Think about the value it adds when you build something, optimize it for the end user, give them a great experience. You must do some of this while you do more just to fulfil yourself.
everyday - consistency is to compounding what silicon is to a microprocessor. compounding is literally made of it. so make sure to consistently keep serving the world with things you know they need!
it is your duty as a builder to serve people.
yes it seems too idealistic and pressurizing in some ways, but buddy, that obsession with shipping is also one you’ve gotta experience.
yes you can do a lot of things for just yourself, and yes the world will benefit a lot from such things too, from just you expressing yourself.
still, do keep the practice alive, make sure you’re thinking of ‘service’ of adding value to people. I bet that it’ll do wonders for you, in ways you can’t imagine yet!
